NEWSCENTRE (DIHA) –Thousands of women condemned the sexual abuse by marching all around Turkey. The Peace and Democracy Party’s Branches (BDP) have held the marches accompanied torches and other women and human rights organizations’ support in Sanlıurfa, Nusaybin and Adana. The main reason for demonstrations was besides other kinds of sexual abuses, two activist women who were recently victimized by police’s sexual harassment. Women marched in Siirt even though police intervention.
Women accompanied torches, banners and slogans marched to protest harassment by any means including police’s in Siirt, Şanlıurfa, Nusaybin and Adana. Activist men also supported women. BDP’s branches chairs and members of executive boards attended the protest, as well.
“Organize against abuse and rape and develop the goal of liberty” was the common banner during the march while the slogans such as “Down the system which supports violence against women”, “No violence against women”, “Find and punish the responsible people” have been chanted in Turkish and Kurdish.
Speeches were made, slogan were chanted and torches were lighted during the march. Protestors try to draw attention the number of killed women which is getting increase and the security forces or plain clothes officers’ sexually abuse of politic and activist women.
Women also said during the protest march that the man dominated approaches toward these cases are the biggest barricade in front of women’s liberty. Women are not going to give up struggle against man dominated system even though suppressions. The struggle will be continued by the women’s determination.
The protests and marches were finished fallowing traditional tilili- kind of Kurdish women scream used for cheer up, protest or mourning- and slogans.
On the other hand women try to be prevented by police in Siirt. Even though barricade established by police Women in Siirt succeeded to demonstrate. Siirt mayor Selim Sadak, Kurtalan Mayor Necat Yılmaz, Eruh mayor Melihan Oktayı, and BDP managers also attended the march and meeting.
