Rotten food for women prisoners in prisons 18:41 04.07.2009

ADANA (DİHA) – İHD Adana Branch released the six-monthly report about right violations in the prisons. Right violations en Adana Kürkçüler, Karataş Women and Pozantı Children prison increased 5 times in first 6 months of 2009 according to last year stated in the report. In addition giving prisoners rotten and wormy food and forcing child prisoners to say national anthem are the other common problems of prisoners.

The six-monthly report about right violations in the prisons has been released by İHD Adana Branch. Mentioned report released by Osman Kara, one of manager of İHD Branch and speaker of Prison Committee. According to his explanation 56 applications have been made to the İHD Adana Branch in first 6 months of 2009. Violation number has increased 5 times if we compare this number to the number of first 6 month of 2008.

Here are the consequences of the report as fallows;

* The letters in Karataş Women Prison have not giving or belated, particularly letters to İHD have been confiscated.

* No enough cold and hot water. * Accounting has been made by soldiers in women prison. * Properties messed up by soldiers any time they want. * Kurdish speech on the phone is restricted. * Rotten and wormy food.

* Detailed and degrading body search during the entering the prison as well as visitors.

* No appropriate transfer to hospitals for child, women or adult prisoners. * Beating children prisoners when they went to prison medical department. * Heavy beating and torturing children when they first came to the prison. * Threatening child prisoners to death. * 10 children prisoners stay in a room for 4-6.

* Water problem, speaking in Kurdish and forcing children

to say national anthem, to stay still and also confiscate the property of children for electric bill.
