MERSIN (DIHA) –Hundreds of women condemned the sexual abuse by marching in Mersin. The Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Mediterranean Branch has held the march accompanied torches. Besides others kinds of sexual abuses, there were two activist women who were victimized by police’s sexual harassment.
Women accompanied torches marched to protest harassment by any means including police’s in Mersin. Activist men also supported women. BDP Mediterranean Branch chair Ahmet Bal and other members of executive board of branch organization attended the protest, as well.
“Organize against abuse and rape and develop the goal of liberty” was the common banner during the march while the slogans such as “Down the system which supports violence against women”, “No violence against women”, “Find and punish the responsible people” have been chanted in Turkish and Kurdish.
Member of local council Çiğdem Göksoy addressed the protestors: The number of killed women is getting increase day by day. This number is 1400 times more than the number of 7 years ago. On the other hand there is one more increasing number of sexual abuses which based on the State. The security forces, such as police or plain clothes officers, have sexually abused politic and activist women. The man dominated approaches toward these cases are the biggest barricade in front of our liberty. We are not going to give up struggle against man dominated system even though suppressions. The struggle will be continued by the women’s determination.
The protest was finished fallowing traditional tilili- kind of Kurdish women scream used for cheer up, protest or mourning- and slogans.
