PrintBITLIS (DIHA) – Women in Siirt condemned the rape occurred in Siirt. Women also condemned the Governor of Siirt and AKP administration’s attitude against rape. The Governor of Siirt warned protestor women by saying that; “Demonstrator Women can engage in prostitution instead of demonstrate”.
4 teenage girls, two are sisters were raped for a year by a group of people from town that some of them notable people and also government employees. On the other hand, 2 year old girl and 3 year old boy were also raped by the group which consists of town’s teenagers. Worst, one of raped child was killed by the rapist teenagers.
People in Siirt faced very bad incidents last couple weeks. News about rape and murders came back to back. Women in Siirt reacted against rape and protested the situation. The Governor of Siirt was uncomfortable because of women’s demonstration and he announced that; “Demonstrator Women can engage in prostitution instead of demonstrate”.
Women criticized rape and governor of Siirt, as well.
Women who attended Tatvan Third Women and Art festival considered governor’s explanation as insult of women and Kurdish women. They also alleged that authorities trying to cover the case.
