ISTANBUL (DIHA)- Women will march together against rape on 23 May in Istanbul. The march is being organized by Democratic and Free Women Movement (DOKH) as part of campaign against rape titled; “Create Democratic and Free Society and Abolish Rape”. The Campaign have been already started in Hakkari on 15 May.
Emine Ozmen, activist for DOKH, explaines the goal of campaign and march: “We have to overcome violence against women which is not just based on men’s own actions. This is a cultural problem. Culture of violence needs to be overcome by society and as well as women. Rape is a part of this culture. There is a kind of rape culture created by culture of violence in Turkey. We need to make it clear and fight against it. Thereby, I believe this campaign will be a new mile stone for women and society in Turkey since our approach against rape is deeper and comprehensive. We are going to uncover implicit declaration about rape. “
Emine Ozmen also made a call for women to take part in solution of their own problem and attend the meeting against rape on 23 May in Istanbul.
