ISTANBUL (DIHA) – Women will be on Istanbul streets tomorrow to raise fight for freedom and against rapes. The components of Women Movement for Democracy and Freedoom lead the march in the context of campaign started on May 15th.
The campaign titled as “Raise the Fight for Freedom and Beat Rape” is continuing to meet women. Istanbul deputy Sabahat Tuncel from Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) participated in the meeting in Basaksehir, district of Istanbul, to support and call women to attend the meeting which will held tomorrow.
We are going to display violence against women, said Tuncel during her speech at the meeting.
“We are forced to immigrate to foreign metropolis because of economic reasons or war. These are one of consequences of rape and abusive culture. If there is a rape at the same time there is a powerful solidarity between men no matter which level of society they come from. We have witnessed this solidarity in Siirt where 4 girls had been raped over a year by around 100 men. We need to display this mentality contained culture of rape and abuse.”
Tuncel also pointed out domestic violence including rape in Turkey. Women are facing violence based on men dominated system in everywhere said Tuncel and added that women need to unite due to stand up against the violence. That is why we have to support and attend this campaign to speak up for our rights as long as we have power to stop injustice said Tuncel and call women to make difference by showing up at the march tomorrow.
