IZMIR (DIHA) –The Eighth Family Court of Izmir ruled leniently against Süleyman Bilen, convicted of physically abusing, sexually molesting and threatening to kill his wife and two daughters.
Perplexed by the ruling, Salihe Bilen, wife of Süleyman, had hoped that the judicial system would administer justice and protect her and her daughters.
Though the court did find him guilty, it ruled that a protective order be place on the wife and children for one month, the lightest possible punishment against the husband. According to the law, the father cannot sexually abuse or assault any family member for one month.
The plaintiffs’ lawyer criticized the court’s decision for supporting male dominance of women and violating women’s and children’s rights.
