ANKARA (DIHA) – Worldwomenmarch will be held in Istanbul on 30 June. Yildiz Temurturkan, a coordinator from Turkey said that rapes and women killings are getting increase in Turkey and that is why the Worldwomenmarch is going to be held in Turkey. Temurturkan also emphasized that misogynism is being fed by the chauvinist, militarist, racist and nationalist ideologies of the State since the incidents against women are not discrete.
Feminist, anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist women international net Worldwomenmarch’s 2010 action will be held on 30 June in Istanbul. “Rapes and women killings are getting increase in Turkey and that is why the Worldwomenmarch is going to be held in Turkey” said coordinator Yildiz Temurturkan. Temurturkan also emphasized that misogynism is being fed by the chauvinist, militarist, racist and nationalist ideologies of the State since the incidents against women are not discrete.
Temurturkan who answered DIHA’s question expressed the 2010 actions of Worldwomenmarch:
“The Worldwomenmarch is an international women organization based on to organize for women rights without any border or limits. October 1998 was the first meeting date in Montreal. Poverty and violence were the urgent international problem of women for that meeting. Since then there were meetings, demonstrations and general actions have been held as both local and international. Now the Worldwomenmarch has 56 active coordination influenced other organization’s approach against women.”
Referring the difficulties Worldwomenmarch has faced, Temurturkan underlined the visa problems considered as barricade in front of the organization and international meetings.
“Misogynism is the most important international problem of women as well as in Turkey” said Temurturkan regarding increasing number of rapes and women killings in Turkey.
“Because of the increasing number of rapes and women killings, Worldwomenmarch 2010 is going to be in Istanbul. We need to attract the attentions on these problems which need to be dealt urgently both ways legal and also traditional. Peace is the one of important step for generally get rid of from violence absorbed by society. Civilization, decreasing army’s financial source for contribution to education, reviewing sexist approaches in any area and increasing common financial expenses are some of practices we need to support and speak up about. These are directly related with our main issue and we need people to understand this direct relation.”
