NEWSCENTRE (DIHA) Head of the Federation of the Kurdish Associations in Europe (KON-KURD), Nizamettin Toğuç was arrested by the Italian police in Padova near Venice on July 18, ANF reported.
Italian police cooperated with Italian intelligence services to arrest, Toğuç (58), a Dutch citizen with an arrest warrant from Turkey.
After the arrest, KON-KURD executive committee issued a press release explaining that Toğuç is a former member of the Turkish parliament, elected in 1991. He was obligated to leave Turkey after pressure from Turkish authorities. He has led a legal organization that represents Kurds all over Europe since 2006.
KON-KURD further stated that Toğuç’s arrest has no legal basis and it is a result of Kurdophobia, propagated by Turkey, and an attempt to criminalize the Kurds. KON-KURD urged Italy to release Toğuç immediately.
