NEWSCENTRE (DIHA)- Nationalist attack on Kurds in Dortyol escalates
Intense atmosphere due to ultra-nationalist attack in Hatay is escalating as well as protests in all around Turkey including Hatay.
Following the attack of the other day on a police patrol and the security directorate building in Dortyol district of Hatay province in which four police were killed ultra-nationalists had attempted to lynch the Kurds living in the town. In addition after the attacks, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) has sent a ‘peace convoy’ to Dortyol. BDP stated that the delegation will meet the victims and the officials in order to find out the reasons behind the riots in the town and negligence of the officials in preventing the attacks. But the Peace Convoy was not allowed to enter the city for security reason. Crowd around two thousand people protested the decision of the governor in Hatay and launched a march to get in the city. Police interfered to the march by tear gas and pressured water and a person was injured according to locals.
Following the police intervention, the governor of Hatay, invited the Peace Convoy to dialogue.
It is also reported that some of shops run by Kurds were attacked and some of them were burnt down.
Extraordinary remedies have been taken in Hatay and Dörtyol, following clashes between police and demonstrators. Various chambers, trade unions, NGOs, human right organizations, politicians, intellectuals and Kurds organized press release, conferences or meetings to react against the nationalist attacks all around Turkey. Merchants in some of towns where mostly Kurds live have not opened their shops today.
During this scuffle in Dortyol, 114 NGOs in Ankara make a call for fundamental amendment of constitution in order to abolish discrimination between citizens.
On the other hand, 11 of 53 detainees were arrested for taking part in lynch attempt of Kurds in Inegol district of Bursa. A week ago, a dispute between drivers in Inegol turned into lynch attempt of Kurds and 53 people were detained following long standing scuffle.
