Headlines of today: Kurds’ lives are still at risk in Hatay 18:38 30.07.2010

NEWSCENTRE (DIHA)- Kurd’s in Dörtyol district of Hatay couldn’t leave their neighborhood for four days because of lynch attempts of ultra nationalists. During the lynch attempt 27 shops and Peace and Democracy Party’s (BDP) Branch building were set on fire, while the other leftist parties buildings like EMEP and ODP were damaged.

In addition, protest demonstrations against lynch attempts as well as visits to Kurds in Dörtyol are still going on in many cities in Turkey. Iğdır, Bitlis, Adana, İstanbul, Tatvan are some of the cities where the protests were held. Human Rights Association and MAZLUMDER sent the delegations to inspect the situation in Dörtyol. BDP’s ‘peace convoy’ was not allowed to enter the city for security reason and extraordinary remedies have been taken in Hatay since then.

Hunger strike against military operations and conflicts

Ahmet Ay, representative of Diyarbakır Human and Virtue Movement, went on hunger strike to stop the military operations and conflicts. Ay’s hunger strike will last a week in Diyarbakır.

Child prisoner sent to die

17 year old M.B. stayed 3 days in Şanlıurfa prison and has lots of bruises and cuts all over his body and also three broken teeth when he was released. According to his family’s allegation, he was sent to the judicial prisoners’ wing instead of political prisoners’.

Explosion in Pervari leaves 4 wounded

Four specialist sergeants were injured due to explosion around Okçular Village in Pervari district of Siirt. Sergeants were on duty during the explosion.

A mother of killed police officer, cried out: We lost enough young people. I beg you stop the bleeding.

Boycott of referendum spreads

382 intellectuals and lawyers issued a communiqué to announce boycott. It was said on the communiqué that we want a libertarian, equalitarian and democratic constitution. That is why we will not take a part and be a part in upcoming referendum.

Furthermore, there are many meetings have been held in Turkey to announce boycott decision.

Workers of post office department hold a slowdown strike

Trade union of workers of post office department, Haber-Sen, held a slowdown strike to protest privatization and cut back worker rights.
Suspicious death in prison in İstanbul

Canip Taner’s burned body gave up his family by Metris Prison’s administration. According to administration claim, Taner set on fire himself and couldn’t be saved. On the contrary the administrations allegation Taner’s family did not believe that he committed suicide since he has short time to be discharged. The family is now waiting for medical report from Forensic Medicine Institution.
