162 NGOs call for a bilateral ceasefire Following the call of Democratic Society Congress (DTK) for a bilateral ceasefire, a civil initiative composed of 162 NGOs urged Government end the military operations and the PKK to stop its attacks.
Speaking on behalf of the initiative Abdullah Aydın said “Insisting on solving the problem with violence causes an emotional separation between the Kurds and Turks which fosters the hostility. Besides, the state officials are encouraging such attacks with their statements and by not prosecuting the perpetrators.”
It is also mentioned that once the fingers are off the triggers then a dialog for a peaceful solution can be launched and the parties can discuss the problem without any prejudices.
The initiative also asked the Turkish state to release the Kurdish politicians, including members of the peace delegation who came to Turkey from Qandil Mountain and Makhmur refugee camp in Iraq.
Turkey extends its borders into Iraqi territory
Duran Kalkan, member of the Executive Committee of Kurdistan Democratic Confederation (KCK) has said Turkey is extending its borders into Iraqi territory.
Speaking to ANF Duran Kalkan said “Turkey has already attempted to realise border extension. Currently it is not possible to talk about an existing border. The border is where the Turkish soldiers are deployed. There are so called border-stones but they are never considered as border.”
Reminding the fact that current Iraqi border was determined on 5 June 1926 by the treaties between Turks and British Kalkan said as a requirement of the war the border region has already be evacuated and depopulated by the Turkish army. He also stated that so far all the Turkish incursions and cross-border operations have failed.
Kalkan further said that extending borders or conducting more military operations will not serve solution and will not reach any conclusions.
