ŞIRNAK (DİHA) - Operations continue with full-force in Şırnak, the city of evacuated villages, unidentified murders and enforced disappearances of the 90s, for which the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) declared to follow "special policies."
More than 500 have been arrested in the extent of Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) operations since the local elections in 29 March 2009, including two MPs (Selma Irmak, Faysal Sarıyıldız), six mayors (Ramazan Uysal, Aydın Budak, Emin Toğurlu, Resul Sadak, Abdulrezzak Yıldız, Abidin Durak), 21 Municipal Council members and five Provincial Assembly members.
There are arrest warrants for eight Municipal Council members and two Provincial Assembly members as well as many Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) branch chairs including BDP Silopi Branch Chair Bahattin Alkış, BDP Şırnak Branch Chair Abit Bayık and BDP Cizre Branch Chair Esat Malkuç.
