URFA (DİHA) – Women activists from the Mothers for Peace initiative occupied the ruling AKP (Justice and Development Party) buildings in Urfa and Viranşehir today in order to protest the isolation of PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The activists in Urfa have been forced to leave the building. The intervention was protested with a demonstration in front of the building.
In Viranşehir the activists had a three-and-a-half-hour meeting with the AKP District Chair Celalettin Sayan in the AKP building surrounded by the police. In the press conference after the meeting Fatma Şelen said, “We are here to demand the continuation of the negotiations with Abdullah Öcalan who is considered a leader by 3.5 million people. We would also like the peace to be established and the military and political operations to be ended.”
AKP Viranşehir Chair Sayan said they took into account the women’s demands and they would convey them to the authorities.
