ANKARA (DİHA) – 6 thousands 272 of workers have been killed in between 2002 and 2007 in industrial accidents which 98 percent was avoidable.
Chamber of Civil Engineer or İMO released a report in this context of Occupational Health and Safety Week. According to data obtained from the report there are 6 thousands 272 of workers had died because of substantially avoidable industrial accidents.
It is also stated that Turkey comes first as regards to industrial accidents among the European Union Countries. Here are the some significant points taken from the report;
*Turkey needs to take some significant measures to prevent the avoidable industrial accidents.
*There are 80 thousands of industrial accidents and additionally 400 occupational illnesses each year.
*More than a thousand of workers die and 1500 of workers become functionless. *Accidents and industrial illnesses cause to loss of 2 million working days.*Total expenses for compensating the industrial accidents are fivefold more than the expenses for preventing the industrial accidents
*2002; 878 workers had died in 72 thousands 344 industrial accidents
* 2003; 811 workers had died in 76 thousands 668 industrial accidents
*2004; 843 workers had died in 83 thousands 830 industrial accidents
*2005; 196 workers had died in 73 thousands 923 industrial accidents
*2006; 1601 workers had died in 79 thousands 27 industrial accidents
*2007; 1043 workers had died in 80 thousands 602 industrial accidents
*50 percent of accidents were easily avoidable, 48 percent of mentioned accidents are also avoidable with a systematic effort.
