ANKARA (DIHA) - While Korea gives 66.269 dollar to the senior teachers, Japan 52.867, New Zealand 32.260, Lebanon 26.917, in Turkey the salary of senior teachers in state elementary school is 5 thousand and the salary of senior teachers in High Schools is 5.750 dollar per year.
Even in Indonesia, counted as a country of bad economy while the teachers take 8.321 dollar, Turkey is in the very back. The chairman of Free Teachers Trade Union Gurkan Avci stated that, despite the promise that supplementary lesson fees were to be increased in 24 October 2005 on Teachers' Day, there is still no step taken.
Avcı, stating that the government had approached to the teachers like it is joking, said that the president should lay hands on to the imposition of increasing the number of lessons and keeping the fees lower by Ministry of Finance and curtailing the fees of supplementary lessons by Ministry of Education. Avci, who stated that the government should realise its promise, in the new period of education, that it did not realise on the previous Teachers' Day, said that increasing the fees of supplementary lesson to 9.830 YTL from 3.510 YTL will meet the needs of teacher in the fields where there is a lack of source to close the deficit of teachers.
Gurkan gave the annual sum of salaries senior teachers take in state schools of some other countries.
While Turkey comes in the last in the list prepared according to data of 2005, those of others are the following;
