VAN (DİHA) – Around a hundred thousands of DTP supporters gathered and screamed “Do not Silence the DTP, Cease the Fire” in Van meeting held for protestin oppression on DTP and condemning ongoing operations against DTP. The numerous NGOs, trade unions, parties and intellectuals besides DTP members appeared on meeting titled “Do not Silence the DTP, Cease the Fire” DTP co-chair Ahmet Turk; Let fight together to stop bleeding.
Van witnessed today maybe the biggest demonstration in the Van history. 100 thousands of people screamed in unison and coalesced to make their demand hearable by the authorities.
A hundred thousands of people become a huge chorus singing a peace song.Speeches in the meeting were also pointed out just one point; peace. DTP co-chair Ahmet Turk, DTP Van Mayor Bekir Kaya even though singers such as Peyvan Arjin and Hemê Haci scream for peace as one voice. Victory signs were everywhere as well as the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s poster.
First speaker was Bekir Kaya, mayor of Van, who evaluated the situation and made some determinations about the level of Kurdish struggle.
“We paid a lot for our freedom and still paying and will pay. But we have never hoped for help costs our honor. We depended on our own power for years. Now government began to discuss the solution, finally. Government’ address to negotiate the solution must be Öcalan since 3 and a half million of people pointed him as their own leader.”
The struggle for freedom is the part of our life until come true
Fallowing Kaya's speech DTP co-chair Ahmet Türk made important explanations saying; “this period is very important. Debates are being made than ever before. We have been peaceable side every time. But being peaceable doesn’t mean quit the struggle. We are going to struggle for freedom until come true. Government needs to quit being racist, other wise there is no way to solve the problem. Last operation is the one of evidence for the racist approach as well as support the violance.
Condemning ongoing operations Ahmet Türk said that no one take us to the court since we are the representatives of Kurdish people. Referring the Ergenekon case he said that; we are on a knife-edge. Peace or war, this dilemma has to be solved by Turkey’s dynamics as Kurds and Turks. We and you do not need USA or EU or Iraq to solve the problem but each other. Sides are very clear to negotiate. You need to see.”
